Chitwan is situated in the southern part of Nepal and is famous for the National Park, which is home to a myriad of animals and birds (some of them endangered). It is located in the lowlands of the Terai region. The word Chitwan itself means “heart of the jungle” and is considered one of the finest wildlife reserves in Asia. It is the habitat for the famous Bengal Tiger and the endangered one-horned Rhino. There are more than 43 species of mammals, over 450 species of birds, and more than 45 species of amphibians and reptiles in this reserve. You can find the Chital, Sambar, Hog Deer, Barking deer, wild elephant, four horned antelope, striped hyena, pangolin, Gangetic dolphin, monitor lizard, python, sloth deer, common leopard, ratel, palm civet, wild dog, Langur and rhesus monkeys.
